I've been feeling rather blah lately, for a wide variety of reasons I won't bore you with.
I've done quite a bit... but I can't show you yet, so I may be making it up. I've completed the first squad of ten, and since I tackled the hardest first the rest should be a breeze. I'm also working on the display board - and trying to capture the essence of Fritz isn't easy.
While working on the later, I ran across these in the corner of my game room, leaning up against the wall behind one of the set of shelves. A year or so back, Jenn and I decided to start a hobby together so took up painting. I still occasionally paint, but it's pretty much in service to one of my other hobbies. Jenn has moved on to other things, primarily gourmet cooking.
What struck me was the completely different approach we each took.
The first two are mine and the latter two are Jenn's. I chose people, she chose landscapes. You could go further though: I'm a social worker, she's in marketing... in a very real way, I'm fascinated by people and she keys on to imagery.
*shrugs*
I won't take it any further, but the point is people gravitate toward what interests them personally, even if they're not aware of it.
We do the same in our hobby. I don't think it is any coincidence that many times we go back to the same things, be it armies (MEQ or Alien, Assault or Gunline) or paint schemes (colors, techniques, styles). That's all well and good, but we also need to avoid complacency.
I'm trying to do that now, shaking things up a bit. I've got to tell you, it's like pulling teeth.
