So I'm here in Austin, ready to take on the world... Or however many gamers show up.
Here's my super-hard, super-tough tournament list...
My new dice tin is meant here as irony.

Rusted Necrons: Update on Progress
This army is at the details stage, with the Flayed Ones requiring the most remaining work. Here's a few pics that includes some detail missing from the Work in Progress shots I took before the tournament this past weekend.

WarGames Con Witching Hour Update
Gak! It's already Saturday, and Lordy but I need some sleep!
Gauthic and I teamed up for the team tournament today under the name 'Not Another Grey Knights Army.' We weren't really prepared for this, since my partner was supposed to be the Card Pimp in Question. But he abandoned the cause, choosing his new job and existing relationship over a weekend trip to compete in an edition that will soon go the way of the Dodo.
Smart guy. Work and family come first. For my own part, this trip is on a shoestring budget...

More WiP Rusted Necrons... Night Before the Trip
It's a bit after midnight and I've got a full day of work before leaving tomorrow for Austin. So where am I at?
(PS: Overwatch, I'll be there this weekend, and in the tournament. That said... with the end of 5th my competitive spirit has suffered. That's reflected in the army I'm bringing, which is much more fluffy than fighty. Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you - make sure you introduce yourself, man!)
So stippling my undercoat took longer than I wanted... and so did drybrushing the silver topcoat. I deviated greatly from Brian's recipe (see last post for the link) at this point, simply because my silver turned out much more pronounced! Truth be told, it wasn't what I intended.

Rusted Necrons, Batch Painting for WarGames Con
Here's where I'm at... finishing the metal drybrush shouldn't take much more time, then it's on to washes, glows, and detailing.. The final steps will be airbrushed, with the exception of the Stormlord.

WiP: 2K Necrons for Wargames Con
If I don't make good progress today, I'm sunk! Luckily, I've been planning this out for months - it's just time to put my money where my mouth is.
So to speak. Let's walk through the process so far, and note I'm going to be using Brian's (A Gentleman's Ones) rust recipe, with some minor variations, so follow the LINK for a perusal then hurry back!
Cleaning: Many of the models had to be dropped in the bath...

Necro-Nid WiP... (BioPsychoAntiSocial)
I've been dropping shots of my work in progress 'Necro-Nid,' but after talking to Everyone Brother From Another Mother Big Whit on Friday, I realized it's a bit difficult to tell where I'm going with it.
This will correct that.
You see, his 'head' is meant to be a hologram projector, where this piece - from Greenman Designs Inc - will fit in, my homage to RoboCop II.

WG-Con WiP Pics: Team Tournament HQ
So for the team tournament, the Card Pimp in Question and I are busting out a TyraCron combo. The HQ's are a Prime and a certain over-priced Necron Lord who drops lightning out of a clear blue sky.

Necrons Generalist Review Part II
Picking up where we left off last time...
So my man Nick (his mother named him Darkwynn, but that's because he's a superhero in his spare time) isn't so fond of Necrons. In the comments, he double-downed on his opinion:

Necrons Generalist Review Part I
I got all hot and heavy over the Necrons not too long back, even picking up Gauthic's old army in trade for Tau.
(Speaking of, Gauthic old chum, 4-weeks is an eternity in blogging... how about an update?)
I built up a list though numerous practice games, but set them aside a couple months ago... and not because it wasn't going well, 'cause it was! Seriously, the Necrons have everything I like about an army.

Mixed arms approach? Check!
Solid troops? Check!
Tactical options? Check!
Solid strategy? Check!
Counter-attack options? Check!
Not MEQ? Check check check!

Adepticon 1850 List, Necrons
With less than two months to go, Adepticon is the next big event on my tournament horizon. Currently, I'm not planning on playing in the Championship rounds, since I'm scheduled to participate with Jon, Nick, and Goat in the Team Tournament.
Last year three days in a row of a brutal schedule was enough to wipe me out. By the finals on Sunday I was beat.
That said, I might find it hard to resist if I get there and the opportunity presents itself. Currently I'm planning on taking Necrons, both for off games and the possibility of playing in the tournament.
So, 1850 'Crons, take one:

Necron on Necron Hate Crime
I'm still in the test phase of developing my Necron army... but I'm not just sitting around reading the book on the toilet - though I'm doing a bit of that...
...or even playtesting variations of the army - thought I'm doing a bit of that...
...or even reading blogs online to see where others are taking their ideas... though I'm doing a bit of that, too.
More than all that, I've been getting a chance to play Tinfoil Hat Tim, the man formerly known as a number. And before that, Farseer Tim. And before that, Tim.
And before that, Little Timmy then Baby Timmy - they get the idea. Move on.
Ya see, I don't have to try out stuff he's already trying. I'll just see how it performs for him. To that end, me and THT threw down twice this weekend. (Also, I played the Mighty Mighty Carlos and the Master Manipulator (every store needs one) over the last week; I'll drop those battle reports here soon.)

Necrons: Bitter Defeat!
I played Sam-I-Am and his Orks-In-Progress not too long ago... and it was a fairly crushing defeat.
| Ah, the balanced approach! |
| I was testing (aren't I always) an idea... if one HBU with Veil is great - and it is - wouldn't two be better? I was also curious how a foot list would do. |

Necrons: Competitive or Crap, Part II
I posted my current 'competitive' list yesterday, and I got to test it against the Client Pimp in Question.
First, the comments!
Tao, from Tides of Madness, noted:
Convert one of your Particle beamers to a Gloom Prism on your Spyders. This will give you a 4+ Null to any force jibbing on the unit and also give you wound allocation (Beamer, Gloom, Naked)
With the 15 points you get from the conversion give yourself a 3 Whipcoil and 1 Partical Caster. This gives you 3 Whips and for better lack of terms 2 red shirts from wound allocation. In practice i find 3 whip coils has been the lowest amount to spread Inn 1 across the unit with the placement (alternating Whips).
With this change two of your units get wound allocation for some increased survivablity, and your spiders (who lack an invul) get force jibb protection.

Necrons 1850: Competitive or Crap?
Here's my stab at a tournament list for my 'Crons. I've been playing around with 'Crons for a few weeks now and have had a blast.
Frankly, I disappointed myself by abandoning them in the City Fight Tournament last week, so with an 1850 at Carolina Comics in Oklahoma I wasn't missing a chance at redemption!
Anyway, here's the list.

Happy Xenos New Year!
I hope everyone made it home safely last night... and are paying for a night of drunken debauchery with extra special New Year's Day hangovers!
Nothing wrong with that - just feels like it!
Anyway, from a hobby standpoint 2012 feels like the year of excess. My game room is practically overflowing with armies... too many, in fact. I have almost everything I've ever wanted - all those models I could never afford when I was younger, I own.
Lord - now what to do with them all?

Brent's Losing Streak..!
Yup, I'm on a losing streak! Exciting stuff, that!
I mentioned in a previous post that I've been playing a lot of City Fight with a lot of different armies - and just having a blast! Naturally I took way too many pictures, but rather than let them get lost in other content I decided to drop a summary of...

Necrons and the New Competitive
I've been excited - impressed even - with the Necron Codex since its release...
...but as always, I seem to disagree with the prevailing opinions available online.
...
I know, I know!
It's an easy statement to make - since you can find anything online to support a premise that broad - but some of those opinions are from worthy sources, such as my friend Darkwynn. Last I read, he contends the 'Crons aren't going to be (and I wish I had the exact quote, so this is paraphrasing) Top Tier.
And he's probably right in a very broad sense. They won't knock Imperial Guard, Space Wolves, and Grey Knights off their perch... but do they have to?
As the Blood Angels. As the Dark Eldar. Hell, ask the Black Templars!
Or ask Daemons.
