So, here are my Heralds of Tzeentch for my optimized Daemons list. I'm pretty happy with them. Thoughts?
The big question I keep asking myself is, "Do I use Breath of Chaos or not?" That's not so easy to answer.
It's a Template that kills on 4+ and auto-glances vehicles on a 4+, so...
Pros: It's great for massed troops, such as those exiting a vehicles. It's also surprisingly useful for vehicles, giving me an option against my biggest weakness, AV 14. I'll commonly use a Herald - as in, one Herald - to tie up an artillery battery, laying the template across multiple tanks. There's a trick to that, since you have to cover as much as possible of the tank being targeted but it's easy when you know how.
Cons: I have to get close to use it. Doing so is not a problem 'cause they're fast little suckers, but they're much easier to kill the closer they are to an enemy. The cost is the primary con, though. It's 30pts per model, which means that each costs 100pts without Breath and 130 with. Obviously I can do a whole lot with an extra 120 points.
So why is it even an issue? Because even one... just one... template in the right place at the right time can more than make up that 120pts across 4 models. It can simply be devastating.
And I've learned how to use it over 6 months of competitive play. I guess if I'm thinking anything it's maybe keeping Breath on my Daemon Princes, which are naturally going to be closing the distance, and removing it from my Heralds. Again, the problem with that is that Breath is naturally more useful if you have the speed to put it to best use.
Sorry to go back and forth like this. Thoughts?
Also, I'm finally finished with my mock-up Digital Head.
So why did I do it? For my display board. Because branding an icon is important. Because it told me to and it scares the shit out of me.
Brent out.

Why not have your cake and eat it too? To my knowledge there's nothing that says that all 4 of your heralds have to have the same load-out.
I do realize that an astute opponent will then have an easier time prioritizing your targets, and there's also the issue of which ones come in and where. But if you're really worried about the points why not give 2 or 3 of them Breath? In an ideal condition you'd be able to sort of sub-specialize what heralds are tying up and going after what.
Yeah, that head scares me too. If I ever ran into this guy deep in a jungle, I'd expect to be sacrificed on an alter very soon.
I think I'm gonna go NOT Brent, just so we can blow that freaky bastard up somehow. You should have a contest: challenge your readers to come up with the most creative/spectacular method of destruction for the Digital Head.
Screw branding!
Or maybe an animated icon of an exploding head is a good icon? :D
Atrocity... that's actually a good point, and no it didn't occur to me!
Maybe I'm too focused on spam - I'll give it some thought.
Fernseher... I can't believe you would encourage anyone to vote Not Brent!
There's only one day left - Vote Brent over at Dick Move!
(That's a blog, btw...)
