So here we are, the arrival of a new rules set for Warhammer Fantasy. I have the models and a Codex, but no rule book. I've seen it, and like many, have avidly followed the rumors but since I have never played fantasy before many of rumors make little sense. I've been bugging the MM(esno) for about 2 weeks to explain them to me. Then I see the $75.00 dollar price tag for the rule book and I balk at paying that. I think I am holding out for the mini-rulebook assuming there is one.
All that being said I think fantasy might really interest me, as it is like nothing else we play at the store right now. In reading the rumors I started working on my army a little bit. I have a 40k chaos demons army that was bought with dual system play in mind, this was around the last time we screwed with fantasy as a store (maybe 2 years ago?) but I decided at the time to just build it for 40k, and to hell with fantasy. I've spent the last week or so working on re-basing the damn army onto square bases rather than round. Here are some pictures of where I'm going with it: (click for larger pics)
So anyhow, as you can see I'm using Hirst Arts blocks for the minibases and to build custom movement trays as well. I've got the spare bricks laying around so I may as well use them for something.
I'm not even sure the army will be played, and it probably will never see much paint, fantasy just never seems to 'take' around here and I generally prefer skirmish games anyway.
I'm actually looking forward to building a nice skirmish table, about a 4x4 size, that can be used for Confrontation, Warmahordes (assuming we can ever get some local players to go after that game), Malifaux (nice fun game), and other skirmish level games, I guess you could play Mordheim on it too but I just don't need another GW game in my life.
So anyhow that's what's happening in Evil Homer's neck of the woods right now. If I ever get around to actually building an HA table I will certainly post WIP pics here. I did get the 12x12 tiles cut this past weekend though...so maybe it might happen.
I guess that is enough rambling for now. There Brent you happy now? I posted something...

Hopefully Fantasy sticks around here too. I need to do a lot more reading and experimenting before I get my Skaven updated.
Bases look sweet.
the bases do look sweet, what are you casting with?
Looking good mate! BTW: What are you using to cast your Hirst Arts blocks with? Is it regular hobby plaster or dental grade material?
I use Merlin's Magic to cast bricks in, it pours almost like water, can be mixed by volume and runs about 14,000 PSI. Really good stuff but a bit pricey at ~$1.00/pound.
The best thing about it is the quick de-mold time. If I'm on my game I can run 3-4 casts per hour from a single mold. I usually am pouring 4 molds at a time, so 12-16 molds per hour really makes the time worthwhile and in my opinion the time savings is well worth the cost.

for Merlins Magic sales. Really, Really good stuff, I highly recommend it.
Evil Homer: I'm always glad when you get around to guest-posting. You're always welcome, but I know its not usually your cup of tea.
Re: Fantasy, I've got high hopes for it. I'm hoping to get a test game in soon.

I'm...less optimistic for a number of reasons.
(1) the cost of the rulebook itself is prohibitive
(2)This is basically at 40k store and sooner or later that will crop back up
(3) You have to get enough of the alpha personalities interested in the game to drive it
(4) We are an event driven store as well. If we aren't preparing for a tournament there is distinct lack of focus in our gaming which can be good (see Confrontation lately) or bad (see last year's lack of focus prior to the build up). Either way without regular events to drive it I just don't see it being more than a flash in the pan.
I actually don't mind posting on the blog, its more about having something to post about. I know you like keeping the blog 40k centric for the most part and I really don't have anything of that nature to contribute right now.
My current interest lies more in Confrontation, Malifaux and Warmachine right now so 40k is pretty much down at the bottom.
Not even sure a new codex would drive my interest back up (the right one might, DH, SoB, DE I'm looking your way), the BA book didn't do much for me, and short of painting, my Guard are done in terms of building. I have a solid list I am comfortable with, there might be a few more units to add but for the most part they are finished. I don't miss playing 40k right now at all so no real 40k thoughts to share.
