Not Brent Presents: Not GW and Not Warmachine

Okay, for something a bit different I'm bringing you three days of pictures from Brent's collection that AREN'T GW and Warmachine models.

'Cause frankly, I'm sick of it.  I don't know about you, but I needed something a bit different.

Today is Infinity.  For those of you who aren't aware of the game... that's your problem.  What?  This is the internet - use it or not, your option.

Brent got suckered into purchasing models for this game by (who else) the Master Manipulator (every store needs one), among others.  Those dudes were looking for a skirmish game to replace Confrontation.

Confrontation.  A dead game, and another reason to dislike the French.

Parlez vous that, Rackham.

Anyway, Brent bought a box set and some blisters and promptly painted up an army.  That's the kind of guy he is... a sucker.

Did he play it?  Not once.  Evidently, we didn't have the terrain for it.  Now he's stuck with vaguely manga-ish Middle Eastern-looking dudes with AK-47-looking Carbines.

So yea, that's a fairly realistic look at the future.

Cool looking bases... nice minis, too!

AoM said...

While the square bases are well done, they neither fit the setting, nor the models, nor the rules for Infinity. :'(

That said, they are nicely painted. The Djanbazan's pose is definitely dynamic, but this one just looks like he's falling over. That is one of the only starter-only models that I would really love to be able to find on its own.

It's good to see games that aren't GW and PP getting love.

Well, if you're a super-sucker- those guys can hold down some shelf space next to your Warzone, Chronopia, and Void miniatures!

I'm with Papa and AoM on the bases - rewrite the rules and setting to make them fit. And it's always good to see something fresh, a different future.

Yaaay Infinity! I played it a couple of times and really enjoyed it, but the need for dense sci-fi terrain stalled it in the local group (and I admit to finding the rulebook layout and general aesthetic of the models unappealing, although some of the Ariadna stuff was okay enough to play). Shame really - it's the first system I've come across where shooting is something that's traded equally rather than either ignored or used to overwhelm.

You can pick up the entire rulebook as a PDF for free, they have a free online army builder (which is awesome) and the game is so worth playing...

It's like 40k, without the GW control freakery pricing nightmare... I picked it up in the new year (skirmish in 2011 is my resolution) and haven't looked back.

My painting ain't quite yours, but check out: http://pathfinder-devilin.blogspot.com/2011/02/painting-showcase-haqqislam-so-far.html

I think these are really good- I am surprised more (less complicated) games have not taken off using the Warhammer crowd. I think you paint so well...I need a second coat- cant wait to see your brush!!

They're nice models, but like Malifaux they cost waaaaay too damn much. Not that it stopped me from buying the landmate-looking ones (because I'm a Shirow fanboy)

Thank you so much for throwing out some beautifully Painted Infinity Models.

While 40k is my first love (and addiction), Infinity might be my favorite system, as was said already it's nice to see it getting some love.

you sir are a nigger, those look nothing like manga

Wow, that was uncalled for.

Well that was utterly repulsive... wow, strong argument for comment moderation.

Agreed, I'm all for free speech, but damn anon 3, just go to bed, you're not ready to be on the interwebs

I like the way they look brent, very shirow masamune, shame that you went through all that just to wind up not playing them, but look on the bright side, possibe terrain

Captcha: bosify

Bosify indeed

(A new favorite!) Anon: I haven’t even bothered playing a game of 6th yet, cause I have read the rules, and actually understand how they interact with units. I know my armies no longer function how they should, and so I need to change them.

Not Brent hurts Brent's feelings.

I think, therefore I blog.

Not Brent has been spotted lurking around with a green marker.

He's not like a bad guy from a cartoon, all devious but never quite evil, Not Brent is bad beans, man, bad beans.

Dethtron: "Again I feel obliged to remind you that trying to sound smart only works if you are."

MVB: "I am not one to join the unwashed masses of self-titled 40k experts out there distributing advice from their blogs about exactly how your list should be built..."

Loquacious: "No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get Hugs & Gropings or Stalks Jawaballs into Brent's little tribute."

Captain Kellen: "I rate this article a Brent on the Faith Hill to Nancy Pelosi scale!"

Drathmere: "Come for the balls, stay for the Brent? Kind of disturbing, man."

Go no further, lest thee see something thine eyes would fain look past!

On Internet Advice: You see, I have an almost religious belief that's it's a huge, colossal waste of time.

...I think I'll call it the Gun Shy Pattern Stormbuster, because after the Internet destroyed my first humble effort, I find I'm a bit worried about the reaction to this one.

Lauby: "Is it left over from that time you thought that you could just complete step one 12 times to meet the mandates of that court order?"

Not Brent: "I guess we'll have to read on and find out. Signed, Not Brent. Especially today."

Cynthia Davis: "I think the scrolling text is from Glen Beck's new book."

Grimaldi: "Spamming certain units creates interesting possibilities but also fatal weaknesses."

Purgatus: "Math can inform decisions. It cannot make decisions."

Thoughts? Comments? Hugs and gropings?

You'd be that much quicker to figure out what I mean when I refer to a Unicorn if I covered it in a rainbow flag.

SinSynn: (To Brent) "Curse you and your insidious influence on the internets..."

Dave G (N++): "You know you're an internet celebrity when your following is more akin to tabloids."

I prefer the term Internet Personality (or IP) myself, seeing as how I coined it.

Lauby: "Your attempt to humanize him as failed. I feel nothing but scorn for his beard - it's like a warcrime or something."

BBF: "I've always thought you are a good player but I finally figured out that you are a great player. It's hard to see sometimes because your personality is engaging, sincere and quite charming - to me that is kind of a rare combination."

'Clearly cheating?' I didn't misspeak: you jumped to conclusions. If you'd like to apologize I'll be happy to send you an autographed picture of my ass.

Ass.
