Warmachine! Again(x3)!

Yea, there's been a lot of Warmachine these last few weeks.  I get that my audience is largely GW, largely 40K, but I've really been enjoying Mark II...

...and ultimately Strictly Average has always been about what I'm doing.  I save the larger articles for Bell these days, just to avoid burnout - with the odd exception thrown in as I feel inspired!

Wyatt never did drop by to mock my take on Thunderfire Cannons.  Maybe he's being nice or something!

I had to over adjust the white level on this pic - I'll take better pics at a later date.
I got a chance to play against Gauthic's Skorne and the Professor's Khador yesterday, barely pulling a win in both cases.  We're all still learning this game, so it's Strictly Average at the moment, but here's what I used:

  • Feora -6 (EDIT: Not eFeora!  The pic is confusing!)
  • Crusader 6
  • Exemplars 5
  • Revenger 4 (EDIT: Repenter)
  • Vilmon 3
  • Choir 2
  • Wracks 1
  • Total 15
EDIT:  Thanks to Tzeentchling for pointing out some errors and confusion with this post. :)

I've got some other units on the painting board, because for the most part I'm going to stick with playing only painted miniatures to keep myself inspired.  Obviously the pictures above show 2 more 6 point 'Jacks painted and ready, but we're not scheduled for 25 points for another month.  We'll see how long that lasts though.

I've got some pics of the games, which means I'll either post them tomorrow or post over this post (?) today.

nice clean paintjobs Brent. I'm a little confused by your addition of blue into the scheme for menofixes and tabards, though. Not sure how I feel about that.

I'd say the blue gives them a slightly more real-world feel, and probably has them look a bit more upstanding.

I love the subdued gold; the texture gives it a good aged look.

For an eFeora list, that's not too bad, but it does lack a bunch of flame sources. Personally, I'd probably replace the Crusader with a Vanquisher and the Revenger (which is actually 6 points) with a Redeemer. If you bond the Redeemer to eFeora (a special rule available to some casters), anything hit by it gets set on fire! That's a lot of fire that can be spread around. Which means a lot of focus for her feat! To get those points, I'd probably drop Vilmon (who is good, but really not worth his 3 points without more paladins to "force multiply") and the Wracks.

Tzeentchling: I appreciate the comments - in our area, we're just learning the game so we're really not up on the intricacies of the game.

I welcome any comments, now and in the future. I'm more than willing to learn!

I did go back and edit the post; the list was the Repenter, so while I got the points right the name certainly wasn't. Also, the model I've painted is the eFeora sculpt, though I've been using the basic Feora rules.

I like eFeora, but I can't really take advantage of the Feat without more fire effects models. The basic Feora is giving me some options against all the Horde players in the area... especially Little Barrera's Trolls.

Thanks again - Brent

Oh, you're playing as pFeora with the eFeora model! That would explain it. And it makes sense that it was the repenter, both point wise and game wise (there's nothing either Feora really wants to arc, which is the best reason to take a revenger). pFeora is not exactly subtle, but she is a fun caster.

If you're facing off against a lot of Hordes players, you might want to look into Reznik as a caster. He's not specifically anti-Hordes, but his feat (I feel) is more devastating against them. Casters that suddenly find themselves without fury are much more vulnerable to assassination, and even if you don't kill the caster dropping all the fury off of their beasts will force their casters to cut for fury next turn.

I will say that both Feoras (and Reznik) are probably not the best casters to learn the game with for Protectorate; that probably goes to pKreoss and pSeverius, but the Feoras certainly are fun. eFeora in particular is quite powerful and capable, because of her superb defensive stats and her spell Escort.

Personally, the Feoras are the only real thing I like about Protectorate. Probably why I found myself more comfortable with Circle. I will say, though, that Feora is a blast to play. And, once you learn how to leverage her feat, eFeora is a great non-linear assassin thanks to Fire Step. Really liking the look of your Protectorate, Brent, it's a nice subtle mix in with the normal scheme. I would recommend you trying to get a Reckoner, if you want to shatter armor, a bonded eFeora Reckoner can be hilarious. Escort gives it extra speed, the bond extra focus, and while the fire effect is a bit wasted, you don't tend to notice when you crack open a Juggernaut in one go.

I would agree that Reznik would be another great caster for you to look into, or perhaps Severius. The only problem with pKreoss is that his feat is actually not that hard to dodge, even if you don't mess it up.

I like how in your group shot, you get a sense of commonality, but not uniformity. It's a hard thing to do effectively. Nice job.

(A new favorite!) Anon: I haven’t even bothered playing a game of 6th yet, cause I have read the rules, and actually understand how they interact with units. I know my armies no longer function how they should, and so I need to change them.
