Telion

In the fluff, Telion is loaned out to other Space Marine Chapters to train their Scouts... so I didn't see an issue painting him as he should be, all Ultramarine style.  He'll roll with whomever.

A simple model, but I've always really liked it, especially with a good paint job like you have here.

Good work.
The only suggestion I'd have is to paint one knee pad or something the attached chapter colours just out of respect.
That's just me, though.

Good stuff Brent. Looks good and it is not covered with your "comfort zone" colors and techniques. The red looks great (is that my recipe?) and with the exception of the yellow eagle and green hose I think you made some good color choices.

Enough stroking..now for the tough love (not really just constructive stuff. You can really see where you washed the model with blue wash. The areas where a color touches the blue has blue wash on it. Some examples..where the hand meets the gun on the grip, where the pouch on the photo 1 left meets the leg, where the pouches on the belt photo 2 meet the legs. There is also some blue on the toes of the feet on area that I think should be black.

The green and yellow in the middle of the model don't work for me personally. I think either color on it's own would have been fine but your eye is kinda drawn to them and it takes away from the good work you have done elsewhere.

...Like the face. I like the way it came out with a few minor exceptions. It looks like there is some blue on the bottom of the beard. It might be reflection or the picture. The eye is a bit big. If you draw a line under and over the eye with some black and kind of give it an oval shape then thin that line a bit with your original flesh color it will make it look a bit better. Currently it gives him a cartoony kinda look.

You may also want to try and get some paint on the side of the shoulder emblems. You can still see the blue from the base coat.

Oh...and drilling out the barrel of weapons is a pet peeve of mine so I have to mention it. I also would have liked to see the back so I can see the cloak.

Overall a good looking mini. I like it.

Ya, the red is your recipe - I used your post, actually, so I should have thought to link it. I'll do so next post.

When you're talking about the ink, do you mean it needs to be blended in better?

The eye is bad - I didn't realize how much so until the photo.

In fact, much of the stuff you mentioned I didn't notice until the photo...

Re: the green and yellow, the green would be easier to change - what about an off purple/gray or something?

Master Manipulator (every store needs one) said...

The problem with the blue ink was that it either ran onto the other colors, or you did not run your color all the way to the edge when you painted the other items. So if you look on the side shot there is a significant blue line on the pants right be low the belt, but there is not blue on either side.

Most of them you can simply fix by covering the blue line with the color of the item. Then paint a thin black line at that joint to separate the colors.

As for the hose, I would use a metallic color or maybe black with some grey highlights similar to what you have done with the gun.

I am curious about the green and yellow....did you lighten them with white when you painted the highlights? It looks like you did. Or where you trying to do as much of this with simple washes over white/grey?

For the yellow I normally see U-Marines as using a more gold yellow and yours is a bit pale.

Ohh and did I mention drill out your barrels? hehe

Looks good Brent. Kind of funny you doing this model. Seems like he was the one you hated in my army the most. He is a good choice. He is a character killer and most people spend alot of shots to try and kill him.

It's a good model but it must be a slow week if it made the Top 10 on FTW.

Well, that's a bit shitty. If you hadn't gone on stupid vacation to stupid Alaska with your stupid sucky camera maybe you'd be super-cool like me.

That said, I'm sure part of it is what gets noticed. I have a larger microphone than most.

I really don't take it too personally because I know between the combination of your site getting more traffic and his site being mostly 40k based the stuff I get does not get noticed.

Having said that The painting red article, my basing article or even the finished copy of my shaman I figured would at least had made it to the "almost made it list".

Hey MMENO I like you articles. They teach and you have alot of good insite. Now that Brent has gone big time he has forgot about us little people. LOL. Just kidding I like both of your blogs for diff. reasons.
