Evil Homer: Something Wicked This Way Comes, Part I

So, Evil Homer is back after a long hiatus. What does a fanged-cartoon character who is sometimes evil-funny and sometimes evil-scary do in his spare time? You're going to find out... and it will blow you away. Seriously!  It's that epic.  Follow along over the next several Tuesdays as Evil Homer shows you a glimpse in to the mind of a madman.

Every obsession has a beginning. My newest obsession started with hate.

Sometimes you hate a model so much you just can't bring yourself to put it on the table. That's me. I hate the GW Plaguebearers. I play Deamons in both systems. That's a problem no matter how you slice it.

Anyone who reads Strictly Average knows our local 151 (props for song references without Google) is doing a fantasy thing right now.  Basically, we're doing a Fantasy build-project in the same way we did 40K.  That was the project which gave me Daemons for 40K.  I need a big anvil for my list so Plaguebearers are almost perfectly built for it.  You won't find me complaining about what they lost.  Just look at a T4 statline with a 4+ ward against 9 out of 10 attacks. Sold!

Now what to do about models…  since I'm not going to use the hated GW Plaguebearers, I did what any good hobbyist would do:

I hit Google looking for conversions!

I sometimes visit the Deamonic Legion forum.  It’s a small forum populated by Deamon players, as the name implies.  One of the articles on the site involved giving Plaguebearers maggot-like bodies. Okay, cool idea, so I gave it a think.

Could I do it with say… Kroot?

I sure could, but that’s a lot of work to sculpt that many worm bodies.  No go.  Keep looking.

At this point I should mention in 40K I use plastic ghouls as Plaguebearers. That's ‘Counts As’ for the win!

It should be noted using the same models in his Warhammer Fantasy army isn't counts-as but a proxy - a definite no-go.  He'd have to convert them so they were a conversion and not a proxy, which is why he was considering the maggot bodies.  It's important to give these things some thought so you can use your lovingly put together army anywhere you choose to take it!

So at this point I’m looking, and I’m looking, and I’m looking and….and…a big scary candy dragon jumps out the woods!  I went looking at Confrontation models thinking I could use the Mid-Nor Incubi models.  Score!  They will work, look good, and I have… 5 of them. Not 5 boxes (that comes later) but 5 models.
The problem is I need 24.  Minimum.

And something for a Herald on a Palanquin: Morzath the Hellspat it is!

Once I decided to go with the Incubi and Morzath and went all in and decided the whole army needed to be built from Confrontation models.  It’s crazy (Yes it is: you guys will see just how much over the course of this!) but I’ve started and I can’t stop thinking about it.  It is the perfect motivation I needed for Fantasy.

Next time the Box from France gets unpacked and Evil Homer rants about EBAY!

  1. I saw someone convert a bloodletter into a plaguebearer somewhere in blog-land a while back and it got me thinking about what you could to convert plastic Nurgle demons. My conclusion was to go with either ghouls or beastmen mixed with a healthy dose of greenstuff.

Interested in seeing how your project turns out.

  2. The best plastic plaguebearer conversion i have seen went like this:

    1. Start with Kroot.
    2. Do a head swap for a ghoul or flagellant.
    3. Paint all gribbly.

Wasn't only, was in person, so no pics sorry.
