Well, I finished my Tervi-Bug conversion. Yea, some armies might call it a Tervigon - what's your point? Anyway, I've got to clean this model up and get a base coat on it, but I wanted to drop it here before I head off to work. Thoughts?
Looking good, cool head selection and the positioning of the limbs is very nice. Cool base too...which reminds me, I still have the bugs stuff from the Macragge box laying around. If you need them, they're yours.
Tyranids never interested me as an army to collect but the simple truth is that tyranid models are some of the coolest out there.
Your conversion is top notch. The positioning of the limbs really lends the whole model a predatory grace that truly makes the bug more than the sum of its parts.
Converting and Kit-bashing Tyranid models is the best thing about running 'Nids. I'm fairly proud of my 'Spider-Tervs,' my warrior-conversion Hive Guard, my Lashwhip/Bonesword Primes and Dual Bonesword Warrior brood. I never did any of this stuff prior to playing Tyranids, so for me, they really opened up the hobby side of our...uh...hobby.
That's a mighty fine buggy thing there, Brent. The hive Mind welcomes you to the swarm.... Looking foward to seeing this army develop!

I'll be honest to you. I don't like it. While it's unique for what it is, but I can't point at it and said, "wow, that's a tervigon." It's hard to say that thing poops gaunts, but we can point at gaunts come out of the ground, umm... sure... I guess the bug hole fallows it, I'm not the queen bug, I wouldn't know where gaunts come out anyway.
Since Tyranid have that freedom on modeling something they don't have yet. Your model seem to be standing too tall for a cover save in general. Claws don't count as body part. If you are planning to run Hive Guards, they can offer a cover save to tervigon if model correctly. If you are planning to run trygons, sure.
Tyranid needs some modeling trick to help themselves since their codex is you know what.... That being said, doesn't mean you just put a carnifex head on the large base and call it the fex is coming out of the ground.
To be honest I have to agree with alex here, it really doesn't look like it will poop gaunts. I mean I love the model as far as models go and it looks amazing, but as a Tervigon it just doesn't fit that well. There is no belly filled with termies, no womb or anything that looks like it is carrying the gaunts that are going to be "birthed" into battle.
I do love the model itself though, really well converted, and it looks awesome.
This looks great. The only thing I would suggest considering is the base size. It seems likely that the Tervigon will be on the larger base (like the fliers and the new Dread Knight). This is something that you can change later but that is a pain.

ReplyDeleteI will say that I'm not a fan of mixing rending claws and scything talons. They always look so dinky and out of place.
Then again, I dislike the way rending claws look on everything but genestealers, and they're the black sheep of the nids anyway.

All in all, this model just feels weird.
I like it except for the base. The base is so small it looks like the bug is balancing on it and at risk of falling off.
