Blast from the Past: Old Chaos List

I took too many classes this semester.  It's funny how the obvious things sometime take time to realize, but I've been fumbling around these 6 weeks wondering why everything takes so much effort.  Well, the short answer is I'm overbooked.  I have too much on my plate.

I even missed this Tuesday's Bell of Lost Souls post to write 8 pages on Persistent-State Hyperalgesia.  Fun.

Still, slowly but surely I'm making headway.  That said, I decided to start recycling old posts for fun.  Two reasons: 1) it's fun to see how far I've come in a short span of time, and 2) nobody reads the old stuff in any blog; might as well dust it off!

I'll be commenting in green, naturally.  So will I.

So I sent in my list for tomorrow's event and naturally I'm regretting my choices. I would have done that regardless; it's tradition.  This was a big problem for me, and the solution ultimately made me a much, much better player.  Frankly, I think I can hold my own with anyone now - and I owe all that to my friends.  

I've talked a lot about the 40K Build Project we did in the local store, so forgive me if you've heard this but I'll say it again: that, more than anything else - and I've been playing since Rogue Trader - helped me become a better player.  In late 2009, the Master Manipulator (every store needs one) and Evil Homer were talking about my incessant need to change things.  They figured if I'd stop tinkering and actually stick with one thing I could learn it and take my game farther.  After that, it wasn't long before the MM(esno) had drawn up a list of armies and we all started rolling.

That's where my Daemons came from.

The rule was we created a list with that month's points value and played three assigned games.  We couldn't change the list between games.  Need I stress again how beneficial this was?

If you folks in your store, wherever you are, want to up your game... try it.  Stick with it.  Stop bitching about the WAAC-Ass Tournament Players and discover why they seem to know something you don't.

'Cause they do.  End rant.

This is not a tough list, though elements of it will give people problems. *thinking*  In that, maybe it's like a lot of lists people put together. That said, as Stelek would say, "It's full of fail."

I mentioned Stelek way too much in my early stuff.  I was pretty involved on his site, but more than that I knew the few readers I had came from there.  I was trying to appeal to a shared sense of community so I could build the blog.

I had a lot to learn.  I look back sometimes and cringe.

Yup. Don't care! My decisions weren't based on winning as much as on other factors. (I call *SELF-EDIT* - what nonsense.)  Primarily, I wanted an easy list to play that would either win or lose quickly, but I also wanted one that was painted to a decent standard so I could enjoy using it. I'm not against using unpainted models in one-off games but I can't stand using one for an event or tournament.

But I like to win. Thus the regret.

I did okay, only losing one game.  I actually would have won the event if my painting score had been higher.  I remember being vaguely irked about that, but it was a good lesson.  I lost points because my Plague Marines were based differently from the rest of the army.  Little Barerra docked me points and he was right to do so.

The astute reader (HI MOM) will notice the terminators aren't finished. They'll be Black Legion when I'm done... right now they're sort of the Grey Dudes. I have to take the color down a few layers.

The running joke in the beginning was that only my mother read the blog.  Later, I referenced her quitting the blog in disgust.  Good times, good times.

Okay, briefly before I let you go... I can see some of you smirking behind your computer screens.  You think the army was complete trash, don't you?

Go on, admit it!  It's fine to do so, and you're right, of course.  I've learned a bunch about 40K games theory since then.

But don't discount it completely; there was a method to my madness.  I can pick it up today and give most of you problems with it.  You need to ask yourself why.

If you saw something like this sitting across the table from you, how would you analyze it?  If you do that properly it's easy enough to neutralize.
