Odder and Enders... (or something like that)

Okay, double post today.  I was disgusted at my laziness in showing you, my chickies, my (not-so) adoring fans INFERIOR pictures!

Simply because I haven't set up my light studio.

After my Odds and Ends post, I forced myself to enter my gameroom (pigsty) and straighten up.  Then I reshot, reedited, and reuploaded some pictures for you.

Here's what I'm currently toying with.

Read my Odds and Ends post from earlier today for an explanation of the Marine.

The horse below is my attempt at a better rust.  As I've said, I'm attempting to follow BSMoove's rust technique.

Thoughts?  It's not quite done, but it's certainly closer than the first attempt.

Before.
After.

Moving on, I've wanted to create a Dark Wolves Space Wolves Chapter for some time now.  No, it's not entirely an original idea, but I've had it for longer than most.  I'm a 13th Company player from back in the day.

Again, not really original but once it's on the proper base size, it's a Thunder Wolf Counts-As.  Mmm... perhaps it should be Dark Riders or something.  Ah well.

Last but not least, I've pulled ol' Harry the Hammer back out.  I stalled out on this paint job but I've got to figure it out.  I want him in my new Warriors of Chaos army.

The Master Manipulator (every store needs one) hates the weapon, which I really liked, incidentally.  But he has a point... how does the bone shaft (heh) hold the metal without shattering?

'Cause it's magic.  Duh.

But now that he's said that I can't stop obsessing over it.  Also, the black armor doesn't work.  I'm thinking a highlight of silver.  The red horns REALLY don't work... but I'm not sure what to do there.

Thoughts?

  1. I think I'd try to use the same color on the horns as what you use on the weapon to try to tie things together a bit. The white on the hammer seems a bit much to me, but I rather like the gold color. I also rather like the black armour, though an additional highlight would be an improvement. Can't say I'm all that impressed with the rust effect. It doesn't seem all that natural to me, though that could have a lot to do with the photograph. I've had trouble getting good shots of my rust effects due to the camera corrupting the colors. I'm curious how the rust effect you're using is done, any chance of a link to what your basing it on?

Thanks for all the great posts btw.

  2. Instead of a highlight on the armor you may try just painting the detail on the chest, legs, and shoulders a different color. That will break up the mass of black you have. Maybe duplicate the gold from the weapon on the armor. At least the chest detail anyway.

  3. Me no likey the painty so I can't help you there, but I'm a big fan of Chaos Knights in any incarnation and yours look plenty sweet.

  4. As far as your Pony goes, I much like the skin tone of the second horse better. That dark blue-green works very well with the orange/red (rust?) of the armor.

Remembering the little bit of Color Theory I've learned from CMON and SandWyrm I'd have to say that you have a Double Split Compliment (Red and Orange with Blue and Green). With that being said, be careful because as I see it now, the "After" photo, while good and interesting, can very quickly jump to "garish" if you let the blues and greens get too much.

    And that's my humble imput.
