Don't get me wrong, I like the model and am proud of it - I think I've just spent too much time looking at the damn thing over the last three weeks. I'll put it away for awhile until I'm inspired to try it out on the table.
A few notes... I built this model as a kit-bash. I wanted a model that anyone could build with a minimum of fuss, but it still had to look as if it could transport Marines and would actually transport a Dreadnought. I also wanted the ability to switch out weapons, but more I wanted there to be a spot for a sponson Hurricane Bolter, and the spot I left is in front of the side doors. Were I to add the sponson, I'd have the door open up and down rather than to the left.

ReplyDeleteI've never thought GW's tanks were scaled to the models that well; to that end, I tried to make sure it was equitable with the current Imperial tanks.

ReplyDeleteWhile I quite like the 'predatory' feel (shark or piranha*-esque) I simply hate the way the Dread is being carried. Sorry - I simply cannot stand that concept. If GW does it, then I'll be very disappointed.

I, however, can't. It's the best solution I could come up with, given I wanted to actually be able to carry a Dreadnought.
My first thought was to have a mounting bracket from above, but I didn't like the idea of the Dreadnought having a magnet stuck on his head. I can live with both models having one stuck on the back.

ReplyDeleteI never intended to make a model that looks like what I believe GW will ultimately design for the Storm Raven, but rather I wanted to build a workable substitute.
With my skill-set, there was only so much I'd be able to do, so I went with clean lines.
I'm happy with it.

Not sure what people expect a Dreadnought to do but as GW will have an enclosure for the Dread (which means higher model prices), well you'll see when it's released.

I personally would sling a Valkyrie cockpit on top of the ramp, but it looks like you used the cockpit floor already. Anyways, NOT a flying Raider of fail always helps!! :D
