Daemons: On Tzeentch Princes

Continuing my discussion on my Daemons army, let's take a look at the Heavy Support section.  I purchased 3 Soul Grinders only to realize really quickly how fragile that option is.  Thanks to a suggestion from Evil Homer, I dug out my Ushabti miniatures from my Tomb Kings army and voila! Tzeentch Daemon Princes.

I've been experimenting with different options, trying to find the sweet spot between utility and cost.  So far, my favorite combo comes in at 190 per model for Bolt, Breath, and Gaze, making these boys my primary fire support.  As a monstrous creature, they can fire two weapons per turn, so I have a choice depending on what I'm firing at.

As an example, in my last game with Evil Homer one DP dropped behind a Chimera and fired Bolt and Gaze, destroying it, while another targeted infantry and fired Gaze and Breath, knocking them down to one model.

I love these guys!  They have a BS of 5 so only miss on 1's, and Bolt at least has an AP of 1 so I've got a shot at taking out the heavy armor.

There are other options that I don't use - let's run through them briefly.

Wings: too expensive.

Armor: this would make them a 3+/4+, so I'm considering it, but again I haven't yet because of the expense.

Unholy Might: +1 Strength to Strength 6... I've tried it, and may do so again in the future.  As an MC, these boys roll 2d6+Str. against armor; with an average roll of 7/8, you can see that without Unholy Might I have to roll above average to hurt a Land Raider.  Armor 14 is by far the biggest downside of running Daemons, so I struggle with any decision involving that aspect of play.

Soul Destroyer: for 10 points, I get a quasi-forceweapon.  Where this is useful is against IC and MC, but frankly I haven't had a problem taking care of these units with other parts of the army, so spending 30 points hasn't seemed like a great idea.

Okay, one last thing - why not Soul Grinders?  DP's can't be insta-killed - to put my boys in the box you need to hit, wound, and watch me fail a save... that times 4.  There simply very, very survivable, whereas a Soul Grinder is the best option for my opponents to fire Melta Weapons at.  They can go away in one shot - can't be having that.

Thoughts?
