At the FLGS, we've been planning for Hard Boyz for most of the year. We've talked about it before, but we all created new armies to learn, use, and ultimately play in this year's event. I rolled Daemons, so I've learned to appreciate the challenge. The Master Manipulator (every store needs one) rolled up Black Templars. Now Stelek has decided to sponsor army lists for folks to play - I think he's basically advocating for his skill - and it's had a lot of response. The MM (esno) sent in his list to see if it made the grade, though as of yet there's been no response. At YTTH, one Black Templar list has been posted...
But the MM (esno) isn't convinced it's better than his own (posted below), so you decide. Let us know what you think.

Not so much I think my list is better, but I am not sure that list is the one I want to run.
ReplyDeleteOriginally I thought he was going to tweak the lists that we sent him, and I think that was originally the plan. Now he is simply spamming out lists for each army. Although his list is quite different from what you may see from BT, I just don't think it is something I would be interested in playing.
So, it is not that I feel my list is better. I just feel that a list that I play and test will give ME a better chance than playing his list.
I think the Doom of Malan'Tai would eat your army; too few things that can actually instakill it, and 2 of the 3 are likely to be dead before they get to shoot it. Then the Doom wanders around eating your crappy leadership BT units and blasting whatever it feels like blasting.
ReplyDeleteSmall units of LD 8 guys are going to be eaten by the evil superbrain. You can hope that the GW FAQ will disallow the Doom sucking you out of your transports like oysters, but I don't see the rules as written currently favoring that.
I like that this one better than the other, but I would LOVE to face either with Dark Eldar. Like prison show lovin'.
I actually hadn't considered the DoM when looking over the Master Manipulator (every store needs one)'s list... it's funny how a single unit can affect trends across numerous armies.

Mmm... I was told it didn't exist...
JWolf - I'm curious what you think of Dark Eldar currently. Gauthic's army didn't do so well in our area, and I've been giving some thought as to why. What I've come up with, among other reasons, is that the Raider-Spam leads to smallish, fragile units. A true glass hammer that falls apart after a few turns.

Raider Spam requires a lot of finesse. It trumps Razorback spam, and can seriously demolish IG Wall of Steel as well. But it's not a win button, and good play can make it very hard to win with Dark Eldar.
ReplyDeleteI like a couple of big foot squads in a DE list, and a super scary Archon can draw a lot of fire off the real killers in the list.
Ard Boyz lists have a lot of extra points you have to spend for DE anyway, so wasting some on tooled up units is fine.
I actually agree with Jwolf. I like raider's and I think Gauthic and his DE were beginning to come around. If I didn't hate the models I would maybe build that army, I'm in the market for a xenos army one of these day anyway.
ReplyDeleteI've never really considered hybris DE, I may have to go back to the AB/Codex and get a feel for what that would look like/play like.
The models are still hideous though.
See, with the way the list is posted you really can not tell what I have to kill DOMs so I am not sure how you can make that assumption.

2 Missle Lanunchers on the Squads
Add into that the pure volume of shots I can lay down if I get just one raider inside 12.
I know it is not the best build, but if you can only pick one unit that I need to be afraid of (and I bet there are more) I think I will take my chances on that.
